A social Gospel focuses on social issues and rarely gives the gospel. It relys on friendship evangelism to satisfying worldly needs and not spiritual needs.
They focus on making the world a better place.
Why? Are we as Christians really to be driven to make the world a better place to go to Hell from?
What is man's greatest problem? The Bible says its sin and the social problems we face are a symptom of that.
We need to treat the root cause, mankind sinful nature, through the proclamation that there is forgiveness of sin through repentance and faith in Christ and the rest will work itsself out through the love and kindness from a changed nature of believers.
Do not distort what I am saying that good works are not needed. I say instead that good works are proof of salvation. And salvation must come first.
What say you?
Does a social Gospel treat the symptoms and not the cause?

Matthew 25:31-46 (New International Version)
The Sheep and the Goats
31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'
44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'
45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
Reply:I think you're right. I understand what you mean and your on the correct interpretation on the FACTS (the meaning of "gospel") that are described in the books. It's clearly impossible even for Saints to not commit sins, still we combat the "good battle", plus we don't have to be friends as a rule, I'm not a pleasant guy. I don't complain and act sensible.
Social encyclicals (like the second part of "Deus Caritas Est" naturally have to be read because they're parts of our doctrine, but that's another story I think.) Sorry for my English. I hope I get the meaning of your question.

I can't give Jesus a sandwich, so I think he wants me to give one to that guy over there who looks hungry.
Get it? A small child could understand this basic point of Christianity
Edit: a sandwich saves someone from hunger, at least temporarily. Helping the person find a job that pays a decent wage would really save the whole family from hunger.

Are humans social creatures?
My thoughts are as follows.
Humans are social creatures, up to the extended family group. We naturally cope with our family ties and close friends that have been adopted in to the family group. This is the basis of the tribal social structure.
As social structures have increased in size, rules of society have been laid down through religion or secular ethics. These rules are what keeps our selfishness in check and allow us to work within a larger society. This in turn allows us the increase in specialisation and technology we enjoy today.
But is this a natural state, or are we just using our intellects to guide us through the problems? When the rules of society are not followed, then society breaks down and the natural state reasserts itself.
Are humans social creatures?
I f they are trained well, they, "WE" humans, can be social creatures.

Question about Social Security children's benefits?
I am disabled, both of my children get checks from social security because of it. I was the representive payee for their money but today I got a letter from social security stating that my ex-husband would become the representive payee for both the childrens Social security benifits. We have been divorced since 1999, He has court ordered visitation and was planning to be here Saturday to take them for the summer. SS said that he had no right to have the benifts changed if the kids are still living with me, I don't know how he got it to go through. Anyway, my question is: Is this fruad? Can he be charged with something? If so what? Also what kind of penatilys might there be. I don't want to go agenst the court order if I can help it, I'm so sick of being in court with him but my childrens saftey is more important I don't want my kids 1200 miles away with no one but her father if ther is a chance he could go to jail. Could I have some thoughts on the subject please.
Question about Social Security children's benefits?
If they live with you for over 6 months out of the year he can't do that. Is he a bum or what? They are drawing off of your disability not his so somebody has got something really screwed up or else he has commited a fraud and yes he could go to jail for up to 2 years. You better get on the ball about this. Go to your social security office in person and take your proof of the childrens residency like school records etc...
Reply:I would be talking to a lawyer..he is telling someone that the kids are with him.. you need to get legal help..sorry to say it..but it's back to court...if he is not stopted now he is going to keep on trying to get more out of you and the kids..so watch out..k...i know what your going threw..my kids are everything and i wouldn't ever let them go back to their dads..their my everything..
Reply:I understand the benefits go with the children. If he has them for the summer the benefits goes to him. But I would go to your Social Security Office and talk to them face to face. Most likely they will be able to tell you what is going on, and if there has been any type of fraud.
Reply:Since your children get the SSI per month, for the months they are not with you the money goes to the person that has them physically.
Since he will have them for three months he should get the money that is used to care and provide for them.
But long term since you have them you should always remain their rep.
I'm sure you get that yearly questionire asking if the children have been absent from your home for a month or more...you are not entitled to the money if they are absent from the home for 30days or more.

Anyone reading Social Work and Social Welfare: An Invitation (Berg) for a Social Work Class?
I just switched my major to social work (I should have done this 3 years ago!). Anyway.... in order to not be in school forever I am taking a lot of classes this semester. I can't quite afford all of my books yet .... there are two that I won't be able to buy until Monday. Neither my school library/reserves or public library carry them. I was curious if anyone is reading this book in particular and could give me an overview of Chapter one.... the main ideas/key terms etc. I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could! Thank you!
Anyone reading Social Work and Social Welfare: An Invitation (Berg) for a Social Work Class?
Nope don't have that one. You might try google scholar (which you will be able to read some of it) or you can also try the publishers website (more and more of them will let you read the first chapter (some even let you buy one chapter at a time).

On a serious note: social security was a bad idea to being with and should be disposed of. Who cares which side has lied about it the most and made it worse? Let's just dump it and get back to being a free society.

Federal Spending On Social Programs at an all time Low!?
I wanted to address these working Class bigheaded stereotypes who think that they are working to fund the so called "Social Programs" for underprivledged segments of Society-- the poor! According to an article from the Boston Globe Bush's 2.6 trillion federal budget boosted National Defense while making the deepest cuts to social to social programs since the Reagan Administration. I am sooo tired of hearing the same old rederic from the upper and middle class-- My tax dollars pay for your health care, your foodstamps, your house, etc etc. A very knowledgable Sociologist once stated that Federal Budget makes up like 1% of all programs in the way of Financial and he also went on to say that that would be like us paying a penny a year / person for Social Programs. Poor people work harder than the rich-- Hell , we engineer jobs to keep you rich "busy" watching us. This ones for you fatcatkeeper.
Federal Spending On Social Programs at an all time Low!?
Our Children's Homeland Insecurity
Michael Petit
February 06, 2007
Michael Petit is president of the Every Child Matters Education Fund. He served as commissioner of Maine's Human Services Department and was deputy director of the Child Welfare League of America.
Steady progress was made for decades during the 20th century in health, education and social indicators for children thanks to long-term voter support for federal spending on maternal and child health services, hospitals, medical research, higher education for doctors and nurses and other public health measures. Many of these social gains are now stalled or at risk of being reversed thanks to two myths underpinning the conservative political ideology dominant since the early 1980's: first, that the federal government can't do anything right, and second, that taxes are akin to outright thievery.
This ill-conceived ideology accounts for the indifference and near-total silence from conservatives in the administration and Congress about the plight of millions of American children who are without health insurance, are abused and neglected, are left unsupervised every day after school or whose parents are caught in a criminal justice system that is crushing families.
Proven programs and policies that could actually reduce these social ills have come under repeated attack by conservatives ever since the Reagan administration. Reagan's even more conservative successors, after taking virtual control of the entire federal government in 2001, expanded these attacks directly and indirectly on programs benefiting children. Cuts in federal taxes and reduced state revenues forced many states to cut child care programs, child support enforcement, health care assistance, Head Start and more, ignoring decades of documentation showing that more, not less, federal spending on children was needed. There is now a huge investment gap, producing much worse outcomes for U.S. children and families than found in other rich democracies.
The children harmed most live primarily in the South, where the anti-tax/anti-government ideology has been embraced most enthusiastically.
Nowhere is this more evident than in Texas, a classic low-tax, low-service state and home to such conservative ideologues as President and former governor George W. Bush and ex-congressmen Tom DeLay and Dick Armey. Arguably the epicenter of compassionate conservatism, how effective has conservative ideology been in Texas? Nationally, Texas ranks:
* 1st in the percentage of uninsured children
* 1st in food insecurity
* 1st in child abuse deaths
* 1st in the number of incarcerated adults
* 2nd in the percentage of the population that goes hungry
* 2nd in teen pregnancy
* 5th in the overall poverty rate
* 6th in crime
* 47th in income and food stamps benefits for the neediest
* 50th in the percentage of fully-immunized two-year-olds
These poor outcomes in Texas are the direct result of conservative principles. Yet the politicians whose harsh policies produce these outcomes stubbornly insist that more tax breaks and more cuts in programs are good for America's children.
In a counterpoint to the hollow offerings of compassionate conservatism, a new report by Every Child Matters Education Fund, "Homeland Insecurity ... American Children at Risk," drawing from official data, presents 17 charts related to the well-being of children in the states. They show that nine of the 10 top-ranked states in terms of the best outcomes for children, based on 11 child-related statistical measures, are "blue"—they voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004. These states generally tax themselves at higher rates and make more investments in programs serving children. In these states, more children are insured, more are enrolled in after-school programs and are more likely to be aided if abused. All 10 of the bottom-ranked states in outcomes for children are "red"—they voted for the Republican presidential nominee in 2004. They generally keep taxes lower, but at the expense of children and other vulnerable groups who would benefit from publicly financed health and social programs
Do we know how to reduce child poverty and the other social ills afflicting millions of children and families? We do. The Great Society initiatives of the mid-1960's, for example, helped knock back child poverty to a record-low 14 percent by 1969.
Conservatives have taken pains to misrepresent the effectiveness of government poverty programs, loudly proclaiming that only the private sector could help the poor while ignoring evidence that the much lower child poverty rates in other countries are the direct result of public, not private, policies. Most telling, government data show that since the latest round of conservative tax and budget dogma was imposed in 2001 household income has dropped, poverty has increased and health coverage has declined even while the administration makes discredited claims that their policies revived the economy.
If we are going to invest in children's programs, we have to pay for them. Earlier generations of Americans understood that progressive taxes are essential to democracy and its commitment to equal opportunity for all children. The current generation of anti-government, anti-tax conservatives seems determined to prove our ancestors wrong.
Our children deserve much better..

The only way to fix this is the fair tax, Eliminate the Marxist tax code that exists and put everyone on the same playing field. You should taxed on what you spend not what you earn. Maybe this would keep me from having to pay for some fat b%26amp;tch gambling at the casinos, or maybe it'd get a scum sucker from taking up space in the Walmart aisle with a scooter and making sure everyone knows her disability is because she was too stupid to finish school and learn how to eat healthy.

Welfare keeps people poor. I've been on it I know. In 1995, My family, was on welfare. I married a woman who had kids that i wasn't able to support on my salary, so we lived in public housing. there was no way out of this situation. crack dealers in my front yard, the whole nine yards. Then welfare reform kicked in. That evil Newt Gingrich and his welfare reform was coming through our neighborhood and kicking people off. At the time I was driving a taxi cab, making $200-300 a week tops, I knew I wanted something better. I heard about all these new job training programs down at the welfare office. I wanted to learn how to drive a truck. I went down to my wife's case worker with my wife, not sure what they would do, but I made my offer: "the community college has a truck driving course that costs $1700. If i can get help with that, I can get my family off of your computer screen and you will never see us again." The lady took me to another office to another lady with a computer screen and I repeated my offer. They told me to go ahead and enroll, bring them the bill, and they would pay it. they paid it. Twelve months later, I was purchasing a house!
My point is is that sometimes these social programs are pitfalls, traps that keep poor people poor. up until 1995, the system was rigged to keep you on the system. there were no job training optiions. just cash your check and shut up. The republican congress of the 1990's, the contract for america and yes, bill clinton who signed welfare reform changed my life for the better.

Go to this website to see that you're full of sh*t. Of course we spend the most on defense, thats the only legitimate function of a government! Look at how much is spent on health, housing, and "All other", which are unconstitutional socialist schemes, such as welfare and social security.
Add it up. Over two-thirds of our income tax is spent on things that the constitution doesn't even give the government the power to do. So how am I an asshole for wanting to aboilish income tax and all the socialist schemes its wasted on? If I plow the field, grow the corn, and use it to feed my family, why should the lazy neighbor who sat on his butt all spring be allowed to walk into my house and take 2 of the three bushels of corn I harvested? Because YOU think he needs it more? Bullshit. You're a thief and an a traitor to our root beliefs.
Reply:Agreed.
If I am subject to drug test, which is no problem and I work hard for my money that the government takes from me, shouldn't the person on the other end of my hard earned money at least be subjected to random drug screenings?

Are there any social phobics who would like to chat on messenger? How do you handle each day?
I'd like to know how those of you with social phobia make it through each day? What helps keep you optimistic about change when you've lived with social anxiety so long? Have you began to feel things will never change? What has helped you? People with social anxiety are welcome to send me emails or hit me on messenger. I also have social anxiety. Nubi
Are there any social phobics who would like to chat on messenger? How do you handle each day?
Hence my dilemma on Guild Wars! I just can't bring myself to initiate conversation, even over the internet. But the more people talk to me the more I feel comfortable and eventually start talking without getting knots in my stomach. My sister took a social anxiety class and said it didn't really help but was nice to know there were others like her, and me. :P I'm gradually getting better as I get older, I can order my own food, and answer and make calls, chat...things I absolutely refused to do before but now there's just the whole stomach knots thing...better. :P Someday maybe all gone. ^_^
Reply:my days are different all the time. I try real hard "not to put myself in a situation such as bunches of people"
Reply:my daughter is very shy. i would considering counseling but at the same time- as a totally anonymous person in a chat room- i would practice saying outrageous things - these people don't know who you are- just play and have fun - be a mean person, be a nice person ect...try on different emotions

Differnces between 'social sciences' and 'social studies'?
what are the differences between 'social sciences' and 'social studies'?
Please guide me.
Differnces between 'social sciences' and 'social studies'?
Social sciences are generally Sciences that deal with the theories behind human relationships. Social Studies usually focus on real people and what is happening in the world.
Reply:Social Studies - PBS TeacherSource
Includes lesson plans and activities about cultural studies, archaeology, geography, ethics, and much more.
The social sciences are a group of academic disciplines that study the human aspects of the world. They diverge from the arts and humanities in that the social sciences emphasize the use of the scientific method and rigorous standards of evidence in the study of humanity, including quantitative and qualitative methods.
The social sciences, in studying both inter-subjective and objective or structural aspects of society, are sometime referred to as soft sciences. This is in contrast to hard sciences, which may focus exclusively on objective aspects of nature.
Social scientists engage in research and theorize about both aggregate and individual behaviors.

Reply:What is Social Science?
Social science is, in its broadest sense, the study of society and the manner in which people behave and impact on the world around us.
Some experts however argue that no single definition can cover such a broad church of academic disciplines, deploying a wide range of approaches to gathering evidence. Instead they simply define the sciences by listing the subjects they encompass.
Each of these subjects uses a range of approaches to the study of society - from the collection and analysis of statistics to the collation of responses to questionnaires and interviews. Like the other sciences, the social sciences evolve through the interplay of the ideas and theories of academics, and the evidence that supports or refutes them.
Social scientists shape our lives usually without us even being aware.
Social studies on the other hand is the study that fosters an understanding ans appreciation of the world in which you live in terms of values, tradition, cultures, history and government.

Why do social services make the rules up as they go along?
My dad is a stroke victim who was placed in temporary nursing care whilst my mu his full time carer had a major operation that she desperately needed.. She's recovering well but is still not well enough to take care of dad the way she used to. The social services have told my mum that she can have carers in her home to assist with dad until she makes a full recovery, however my dad needs assistance to get up and down stairs and because mums stairs are awkward and go round corners she has to wait a long time for a stair lift to be fitted so the social services have said that my mums living room has to be made into dads bedroom as the carers are not allowed to take him up and downstairs as its against health and safety so I offered to go to their house on a dialy basis to escort him down in a morning and up in an evening but the social services have dis allowed that as they are not covered if anything happens to him. They only have 1 bath and that too is upstairs yet a family member can
Why do social services make the rules up as they go along?
Social services care system is crap. You have my sympathy and keep a close eye on the carers that visit. Not ALL are like it but some that my aunt has had have stolen from her. One woman was filtering money off her pension by upping the shopping bills and another woman was helping herself to food and tea bags, sugar etc from my aunt. How these type of people can be classed as carers is beyond me - they couldn't care less !! Good luck to your parents and hope it all sorts itself soon xxx
Reply:first off, you keep saying "mum" so, are we talking about social services outside the USA? I would have no idea in that case. But, one other question: The poor guys only allowed to go to the bathroom twice a day? I'd die. I pee like 10-15 times a day!
Reply:Ah the good ol Social Services. The very same people that ignore children in at-risk families while taking children away fron non-risk families.
I think the SS (both senses of the word) are fairly representative of our current Government at the minute.
The people who work in Social Services should hang their heads in shame for what they have done to the system as well as the Labour fascists that allow them to continue, of course these souless, greedy, incompetent parasites don't have a conscious so I wouldn't be expecting anything anytime soon..
Reply:Well you have discovered the fun in dealing with this type of agency. You also note this is a policy and not a law. They are not supposed to make up rules as they go along, but often do just that.
I assume you have pointed out the direct conflict in their policies to them. You do need to keep in mind that they have to look out for the safety of their employees as well as the safety of their clients. Frequent trips up and down the stairs can be dangerous. The more you tempt gravity, the more chances you have of falling. However what this sounds like is an effort to make it easier for the care giver to work there. They are trying to get every thing on one floor in the home to make it easy for them. A chair lift can be dangerous too.
I would recommend that you be available to help out with getting up and down the stairs as often as possible. You can always be working on getting the living room made up for a bed room until the chair lift gets installed. Your other option would be to tell them off and hire your own care worker. You might check your parent's home owners insurance policy to see if the care worker is covered by the policy for accident or injury. You can also contact a supervisor with the agency and demand that they provide proper assistance that does not include a home remodel to accommodate the worker.
Reply:I am so sorry that you are having all these problems.I agree that the social service people are way out of hand.
Reply:They're not making the rules up, it's just the policy of their employers (and probably their insurers) to prohibit them from helping people up and down stairs for fear of being sued in case of an accident. There's nothing in the world to stop you doing this, you're hardly likely to sue either yourself or your parents for compensation, are you?
It would make sense to make a bedroom up for Dad downstairs, he will feel less cut off than being shut away upstairs, and your social worker should already have considered arranging a commode for him, and any other things that would make life more bearable and safer for him. I'd get on to him/her first thing. She should also be able to arrange for the carers to wash Dad as required, if they're not already doing that, to remove the need to go upstairs at all. Meals on wheels will help too.
I had to deal with this for both my parents over the years and once sorted out it worked very well.
I hope both are soon recovered and able to fend for themselves again.
Reply:It's not a law, they assess the persons situation. They don't make simplistic comparisons and say well if person x gets a then person z must get it too. It's done on a case by case basis.
This is because everyones needs are different, you can't make blanket one size fits all judgements.
Reply:If they're not moving him and you are then I can't see what the problem is.They are correct that they are not allowed to do it but you as a relative can.All people care about is the suing going on these days. They could get done for man slaughter if he falls and dies(sorry) or if they damage themselves they are not covered by insurance. Unless your parents are going to su you if something happens-god forbid then I can't see what the problem is. Alot of people do convert rooms to cope with this situation. It may be a solution temporarily.Think about it.You need to think about your dad's safety aswell.
Also, have you thought of a commode? The social services should've sent round an occupational therapist to decide on the equipment needed. If not,get onto your social worker.Sometimes the services need a good kick up the a**e!

Reply:1. Social Services have a budget limit imposed on them by the Finance Department of the County Council - this has been eroded year after year by Government. They are limited by this in what they can provide, how many things they can provide and to whom. Unfortunately, this leads to a queuing system for aids and adaptations which gets worse towards the year end because their budget has been spent.
2. The strict Health %26amp; Safety regulations have come about because this has become a litigious society "Oh dear, I've twisted my ankle - how much can I get" attitude. So people cannot be put in a position where they might hurt themselves because the Council budget would be eroded into non-existence by injury claims.
3. Social Services cannot stop you from making your own personal arrangements for care of your father. You can contact a local Nursing Agency and organise his routine. They cannot stop you from caring for him yourself, but as they say, they cannot be held liable should you take this course of action. The Nursing Agency will have 3rd party insurance.
4. It really does make sense for your Dad to have his bed downstairs if he is to return home, while arrangements are made for his safe and comfortable care back upstairs. For one thing, it will be easier on your mother and his carers.
5. Your GP can make arrangements for a bath nurse to attend to your father's cleanliness, or the Agency will have carers trained to do this as would happen on a hospital ward if patients are unable to be immersed in water.
6. You might try to have a discussion with the Occupational Therapist overseeing your parents' care in the Community - it might be possible to have a downstairs shower installed. Again, the constraints could be financial.
Believe me, they are not trying to be difficult or uncaring. I have almost cried with frustration when trying to set up Care Plans to get patients back into the Community with no money available to do it, Consultants and Families all demanding that I accomplish the impossible yesterday!
P.S. A word in the ear of the Local (bolshiest) Councillor or your local newspaper might speed things along!
Reply:Because they follow or else misinterpret the stupid edicts that come from Politicians in Ministries and Parliament. Tell him or her what you have told us and suggest he or she gets off his or her bum and investigates. Otherwise he or she will not get your vote at next Election. Believe me one letter to the Minister or else direct to Social Services staff from your MP could work wonders.

Anyone familiar with Social Work??? Please answer?
Hey guys! I am wanting to major in social work. I am hoping I am amking the right decision. I want to councel others.. one on one or even in groups... I am mainly into the mental health field. I have depression/anxiety/bi polar and have wanted all my life to help others who go through what i go through. that is my number one passion. I can feel it in my blood. I was goin to major in psychology but I decided that it would be diff to get a job with that and plus the stuff was too scientific and even though I enjoy learning about how people think and all the mental illness's it goes way deeper than that. Plus social work would give me a option of diff things I can do. I hear it is a very versitile degree. Anyways, I was going to minor in counseling but should I minor in counseling psychology since my main interest is on the individual instead of people as a whole. I know social work is people as a whole but I picked social work mainly because I can do what I want to do with that degree.
Anyone familiar with Social Work??? Please answer?
It is very rare for there to be a counseling psychology minor at the BA level (generally you can't get a BA in counseling psych - this is usually a MA level degree). If you are interested in mental illness you would would be best to major in either psychology or biology (possibly through nursing) (as mental illness and mental illness treatment has a strong biological component and understanding this would be helpful to you and your clients.
In general the important thing in your social work program is to be sure to take elective courses that related to mental health (in our program we offer such an elective). Also be sure to do your internship in a mental health context.
Crown is not fully correct. BSW social workers do lots of individual work...they just don't do individual "therapy" or "clinical" work.

Reply:You can work with people with a B.S. in social Work. If you want to do one on one (individual sessions, then you will need a Masters degree (MSW). a minor in psychology would give you more of a foundation in human and abnormal behavior, development psychology, etc. which are needed. Please know that some positions require a license to do therapy, particular to do private practice after the MSW. As a part of the educational requirements of the degree are 2 field placements, more like internships. Nothing that you need to be concerned about because the school/college set these up for you. Lisensure requires two additional years of supervision ...post-MSW.
The field remains open. It is a wonderful profession. If you are interested in versitility, then social work would provide you (in my opinion) with the greatest range. If counseling/mental health is your main interest then a cousneling, psychology or social work degree can offer you what you want.
You stated that you have diagnoses of depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders. If you are not currently in treatment, I would encourage you to consider getting treatment for yourself before entering the profession. This would include talking through or working through your reasons for choosing the profession. Having these diagnoses are not problems in themselves. One of the major paradigms of any helping progression is something called professional use of self. You want to know your issues, what your motivation is for choosing the profession and have a handle on them so as to not impose them on your clients/patients. This actually helps you to do the kind of work you seem to really want to do for your clients. It helps you to stay healthy and continue to be a stable helping professional.
I hope this helps. Best of luck!!!

What is social justice?
I was wondering what people out there think about social justice... What is social justice to you? Don't give me any definitions, just tell me what does social justice mean to you personally?
Thank you.
What is social justice?
I don't believe it has a personal, subjective reason that can be manipulated. The example of wage garnishment for child support is a prime example of both my statement and social justice. Within the society, not just "the concept" of society, parents are primarily responsible for their children unless there is a circumstance such as the inability of the parents to be literally responsible, such as due to post-children injury. There is no "extra-provision fountain" that says this statement, or their parents responsibility, is subjective.
Reply:Social Justice is when the rich fear less the poor and viceverse.
Reply:Personally, Social Justice means that everyone one would try to live out their lives in a peaceful %26amp; loving society. There would be a world wide respect for human life.
I hope this helps...

Social Security Admin. Report: Bush Administration Guilty of Hiring Illegal Aliens
If President Bush is serious about getting tough on U.S. employers who hire illegal aliens, he can start with his own administration, which employs thousands of unauthorized workers, says the top Republican on the House immigration subcommittee.
A 2006 audit showed federal, state and local governments are among the biggest employers of the half-million persons in the U.S. illegally using "non-work" Social Security numbers — numbers issued legally, but with specific instructions that the holders are not authorized to work in the U.S.
"Let's clean up our own house, let's especially clean up the federal employment of all those working for the federal government," said Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican and ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee's immigration subcommittee.
The Social Security Administration used to, but no longer does, issue non-work numbers to legal aliens who were not authorized to work but needed a number to obtain a federal or state benefit or service. Still, hundreds of thousands of those immigrants used the numbers to get a job.
According to the 2006 audit by the Social Security inspector general, 17 of the 100 worst employers using employees with non-work numbers were government agencies: seven federal agencies, seven state agencies and three local governments. That means the government knows who those employees are, but usually does not go after them.
Earlier this month, Homeland Security and Commerce departments announced a new crackdown on illegal entry that includes stricter enforcement against employers. The departments said they will encourage businesses to use E-Verify to check employees' Social Security numbers, and said the federal government will write new rules requiring all private contractors and vendors that do business with it to use E-Verify.
Under current law, neither business nor federal agencies are required to use E-Verify, formerly known as the Basic Pilot Program.
Mr. King said the administration shouldn't wait for new rules to begin checking federal employees against the non-work list.

An online Social Work degree program....?
I'm finishing an associate's degree in Social Work, and I'd like to start working as a Social Work assistant, and then complete my bachelor's degree using an online degree program or some sort of distance learning. I don't have a car, so transportation is an issue for me. I've looked online, using Google, but have been unable to find an online Social Work degree program. Any help would be great, thanks.

Can having a social worker stop me from being one?
I am 15 and would like to be a social worker when I am older, when I talked to my social worker about it she said because I have a social worker I would not be allowed to be one is this right ? I don’t see how having a social worker at this age can stop me from being one when I am older.
Can having a social worker stop me from being one?
I admire your dream! Don't ever let anyone try to discourage you to be who you want to be! If you are passionate about what you do, you will succeed where most fail! I am doing a social work degree at present and several of my class mates are people who have had social workers in the past. In fact being a service user is a big advantage when it comes to being accepted on the course.
It is probably true that one can not practice as a social worker WHILE one is recieving certain services (mental health etc) but no reason at all why you cant in time to come.
I am a bit concerned about your social workers attitude to be fair, it doesnt seem very optimistic. I am also concerned about why she would tell you something that she knows to be untrue. Perhaps you were at cross purposes?
You will need to stick in at school as the social work qualification now requires that you do a degree through university.
You will need A levels or an access course, unless you can prove later on, as a mature student, that you have gathered the skills to study via work based training etc
good luck, keep our eyes open and work hard.

Anybody have social anxiety disorder? Only serious responses please.?
I think i have social anxiety disorder. I am very shy and when I meet new people or am in a group, I am usually quiet. I want to talk and I want to be social but I just cant or dont know what to say. This has affected my career. I have actually been fired over this. Managers cant get to know me and think I dont care about my job when indeed I do very much. My social life is also affected. I want to be around people but I have a hard time keeping friends due to my "shyness." I tried to get therapy. It took me a lot to build up the nerve to call a therapist and make an appt but the therapist told me she wasnt taking new patients. I was so embarassed. There has to be an easier way to get help. Its too hard for someone like me to call a therapist and tell them I want an appt and then explain why I want it. What can I do? Has anyone tried acupuncture for this? I want to be outgoing, have friends, a good job, and a happy life.

I have to force myself out into social situations becasue I know it would be good for me, once I get there Im usually okay. When I was younger I would go out and half way through the night I would find myself in the middle of a bar or club and just think to myself I have to get out of here and just leave without finding any of my friends. It takes time but you have to realize that this is not a positive thing and push yourself a bit. If you really cant then you may need an anti anxiety medication until you can over come it.

You dont need to hide who you are, if you be yourself youll eventually find yourself in situations and with people very similair to you.

Good Luck
Reply:no,go to the tthe doctor i have it and takecimbalta i was as you are now ,im good as gold
Reply:I have this and its because I am scared of rejection. It took me a while to realise that everybody is crazy and does weird things, and everyonee still accepts everyone just as they are. You dont need to hide who you are, if you be yourself youll eventually find yourself in situations and with people very similair to you.
When in social sit. i lose concentration, hard to talk, or when so say something dumb can it be add/ asperger?
although i cannot ask someone to diagnose me, or nothing of the-sort i just wanted to know if this seems connected to anything of the 2 things down below. or your own hipothesis much obliged; in social situation i get extremely nervous, EXTREMELY, i clam up and when i do speak i feel so nervous that i cant really formalize what im gonna say my voice shreaks, my hands start to shake.. when i do speak infront of people (just even 2)i say stuff not really well thought out (sometimes even stupid sounding) because of my nervousness, im wondering if those might be symptoms of; A.D.D (because its really hard for me to concentrate in general. never was good at school, and i would think maybe my social behavior of speech etc maybe connected with my very poor amount of concentration. you know asin when you speak or formalize ideas, you use a train of thought) or Asperger Autism (because of the symptoms of social inadecuasy,1 hobby intrest ). note; that when i feel safe in a situation i feel norm

Why can't you ask a psychologist to diagnose you... are you under age and your parents don't want to (go see the school counselor)? Is there no insurance or an issue with your insurance company in this regard? Or does the mere thought turn your anxiety up through the roof (this one is a strong indicator for the first condition I mention below)?
Anyway...
Losing concentration in a social situation, and having difficulty conversing with others, could be any number of things.
Social Anxiety/agoraphobia is the most likely cause, but it takes a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist to do any diagnosis, so don't take what I'm saying as one. Anyway, agoraphobia is treated with medication and therapy. It can also contribute to difficulty concentrating at school and in other stressful situations, and can be a quite serious condition.
You might have attention deficit...but that by itself usually does not make someone a "social recluse"...quite the opposite!
It probably isn't Asperger's (although like I said before, I'm not diagnosing you, here). In the autistic spectrum, the person does not read social cues from others or learn social rules effectively. They also usually don't show their own emotions with the same set of body language as everyone else. While people with autistic-spectrum disorders, especially the higher-intelligence ones, feel a great deal of anxiety in social situations, it's more a foot-in-mouth problem rather than clamming up, especially for Aspergers. This is a generalization, but I'm trying to summarize this in less than half a page..lol.
Anyway, the ONLY way to really identify your exact issue and needs is to get a diagnosis, and treatment through couselling (and medication if absolutely necessary).
Reply:You are very welcome! Don't let your anxiety stop you from going to get help...stay strong! Report It
Reply:Sounds more like Social Phobia (formerly called Social Anxiety Disorder). Only a psychologist can truly diagnose you. There are a few overlapping symptoms with Asperger's and ADHD, but Social Phobia sounds like the best explanation. And, Social Phobia is easily treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy and medication such as Paxil.

Involuntarily anti social....?
i havent been social in close to two years. in these two years, i've been in mostly social environments. i find it hard to loosen up and just be myself most of the time. and i truly want to just be myself. however, i have been told that i am disrespectful, rude, sarcastic, pompous, arrogant, etc; the whole nine. i dont see in me what others see and i completely disagree with the names. i consider myself a fun-loving, considerate, potentially outgoing person. it is because i have been labeled this that i choose to keep quiet more often than not, biting my tongue a lot. has anyone ever felt this way and is there anyone who can give some advice on this. i really want to be a social person and feel free to say what i feel at all times. somebody let me know sth, please
Involuntarily anti social....?
Its called 'tact' and 'delivery' you just have to get better at those two things. I have been mistaked for an anti social self obsessed snob most of my life. If your friends are calling you these things than I would worry. If they are random people, who cares. Either way you can be as sarcastic as you want, but you have to do it correctly. I have failed at many a delivery in my day. Either way in the gay world you are either 'easy', a snob or crazy. So don't stress too much.
Reply:Oh, don't worry about it. You just need some people around you who share your humour and your sensibilities. You should be fine then. Just don't worry about what they label you as. Doesn't help much.

Dealing with social anxiety?
I have been dealing with social anxiety ever since i was about 13 years old. I am now 20 and have finally decided to get help. I have tried for years to fix this problem myself, but have been for the most part unsuccessful. I used to be a very outgoing, funny person, but the all of a sudden i changed. I stopped hanging out with friends, avoided social gatherings, was terrified of public speaking. It changed the way i live. Throughout high school i dealt with this, and i just kept telling myself i would be fine eventually. Im now a junior in college and i am ready to get rid of the fear. There have been times where i feel good and comfortable in social situations, but for the most part it is negative feelings. Will therapy help with this anxiety? Do antidepressents help change by behavior? Im also nervous that i dont have it in me to do cognitive behavior treatment. Any advice on dealing with this? thanks
Dealing with social anxiety?
Anxiety disorders are pretty common, and as you've described, they can be really distressing. Be assured though that they respond really well to treatment and in a pretty short time frame. Can I suggest that firstly don't be too hard on yourself; a lot of people experience problems with anxiety, but help is available. See your family doctor and talk to him or her about a referral to a counsellor who specialises in assisting people who experience problems with anxiety. As I said, the counselling treatments for anxiety are very effective. Also talk to your doctor about whether you might benefit from some kind of medication. The new medications to treat anxiety are not addictive and are also very effective. Good luck.
Reply:''Social anxiety disorder'' is too complicated word for the matter. It is all about you simply not trusting people.
Long time ago someone harshly broke your trust, which made you suffer like hell. And maybe not even once, but several times. By ''long time ago'' I am referring to your childhood (which is unlikely in most cases) but actually I am referring to your past lives.
This is a very strong emotion that has been stored in your sub-conscious, and because you moved from one life to another the surficial info got blurry, like who the people were. Rather the emotion is there with the generalization %26gt; people.
You simply don't trust people. You're afraid they might break your trust again.
Now the key is : forgive everyone you see. As deep as is possible. Forgive each person that is walking pass you on a street... And the fear will drop off... You will have nothing to do with it anymore... You will be FREE like a bird......

8th Grade Social Studies?
Okay I think I'm falling a little behind in Social Studies. I start 8th grade in a couple days and I'm really worried because I'm afraid I won't know things I SHOULD know before social studies starts! What are some things that I should know before social studies starts?
8th Grade Social Studies?
Cheezy is right. i am going into 8th and there is nothing you can do. They will probably refresh your memory and start on the thing you left on in 7th grade. For me that would be the Reconstruction Era.
Reply:uhm they will review the first week or so, then jump into your book and start fresh. Not much to do to prepare.

How does social work principles observe the aspect of social cognition when dealing with clients?
in the light of socia work principles how social workers and other professionals should observe the aspect of social cognition when dealing with clients
How does social work principles observe the aspect of social cognition when dealing with clients?
Social work principles can not observe.
That said. Cognition is one system within the individual and it is important to understand it in relation to the cognitive and affective systems. But also in relation to the biological, spiritual systems as well. Social work principles direct us to consider all systems and their relationship as part of understanding the whole person. DA

They don't empathise even slightly with the needs of the individual until they are proven to be at risk. At which stage they are already victims, the perpetrators are almost always prosecuted and by necessity the social services have no choice but to intervene.
Other than that, the client is a number and the 'social' do not 'serve' they guide towards other, usually charitable, agencies for them to offer support and assistance.

Being anti-social...?
What makes a person anti-social? Do they chose that path, or is some reason as to why?
I am becoming more and more anti-social as my life goes on. I haven't a clue why. I hate being around lots of people, I hate going to parties, I don't talk much, that kind of thing.
Or is this a type of social anxiety disorder?
Being anti-social...?
I can totally relate! I'm going through the exact same thing. I think as we are getting older, we just crave some alone time. I think younger people are afraid of being alone or being bored and as you get older you appreciate those quiet moments. I also prefer to hang out with a smaller group of people or close friends that you truly connect with rather than people you don't know or don't really care for. As adults, we are pulled in so many directions and have so many responsibilities (and for myself, I have to deal with the public in my job) that I don't want to have to "fake" it when I'm not at work. My down time is precious to me! In my honest opinion, it more of a sign of maturity.. not being anti-social.

The reason this changed for me is that I work with people 40+ hours a week and I sit in horrific traffic every day. By the time my day is done I am so sick of people - I just want to be left alone!!
Could it be this??
You'd know if you had a social anxiety because social situations would stress you out and make you super nervous - or you'd have anxiety attacks (This happens to my friend). She's on meds for it, and is fine.
Maybe, if none of this fits - go see your GP

Interesting Question: social groups at your school??
first off, i would like to start by introducing myself my name is lauren and i'm kinda new here so this is my very first question (yay)
anyways...i was just bored so what are the social groups/levels at your school (i.e. populars, jocks, nerds)
i know that you're probably thinking that social groups are SO not important and they are stupid....and i agree with you. but gosh i was just wondering??
i think the social levels/groups in my school are pretty interesting:
1. populars (duh)
2. semi-populars
3. hardcore mokes
4. normals (this level is divided into sub groups but i wont get into that)
5. nerds

Using others social security numbers?
I have noticed that on some of these back ground check sites that you can enter peoples social security number to find info on them, however at our local court house we have computers that you can search through criminal records, it also has a way to search by social security number....however there is a sign and the system warns you that you cannot enter another persons social security number into the system
with out their knowledge and/or approval, says it's punishable by law. does this apply to all sites of this nature and why doent you see these warnings on these sites???
Using others social security numbers?
Yes, that does apply to most of the "background check" sites. Most of those sites cover their legal bases by burying that warning in their "Terms of Service", "Privacy Policy" or "Legal Disclaimer".

What exactly is Social Security?
What does Social Security actually do? Is someone's Social Security number related to Social Security payments from the government...? What is the reason for a Social Security number and how is it supposed to relate to someones life?
What exactly is Social Security?
Social Security is a TAX on employment wages.
That's what it is, a "special use" or "specific use" tax.
The tax is supposed to be sequestered and then used for a WELFARE PROGRAM, the "old age and surviivor and disability insurance" program (called OASDI, which is what the tax is called on your pay stub and annual W2 form).
The net unfunded debt (that's the money we can calculate must be paid less the assets owned) by this program exceeds 11 trillion dollars. It's broke. We have to sunset it. If you are young, you'll never see any of it anyway.
The purpose of Social Security was to elect Franklin Roosevelt to a third term (an unheard of possibility at the time) in 1940.
The purpose was successfully accomplished.
It's a TAX and a WELFARE PROGRAM engineered by an ambitious politician who died 61 years ago.
It's a whorehouse, but there are bigger ones (like Medicare, which has only been around half as long but has a net unfunded debt of $66 trillion dollars... that's a dollar bill every 4,000 feet all the way to Alpha Centauri and back).
The newest whorehouse is the retiree's "prescription drug benefit program" which is only A YEAR OLD and has a net unfunded debt of $7.9 trillion. It was enacted to re-electe "W" and it did so. And you'll pay for it past your death.
Reply:Social security provides retirement and disability benefits based on your earnings from the five years of your highest contrbutions out of the previous ten years before the onset of a disability or retirement age. Your social security number identifies you in the system and is a way to track your earnings. Your number was originaly used for only social security matters and wasn't supposed to be used for identification as it states on my original card. its use has expanded now through banking, IRS, credit reporting and practically every aspect of our modern economic life. By the way there is no recourse if the government wants to stop the program.
Reply:It's a forced retirement plan, mandated by federal law.
Anyone who works is required to pay into the Social Security fund, as a special form of tax. When (or if) they retire, the fund pays them a retirement pension (fairly small, nowadays) for the rest of their life.
The SSN (Social Security Number) was originally intended only for tracking those payments, then was expanded to cover all income- related government transactions, then eventually morphed into a national personal identification number.
Reply:its an-insurance company you have topay into whether you want to or not because the goverment does'nt want to have to support you in your old age. you can retire when you are 62 but won't get alot og money each month. at 66 you get alot more. Hardly enough to live on but you can. Your number tells FICA how much you are putting in so they know how much you can draw out when you retire or can't work anymore for some other reason. also used for ID in most goverment agencies. especially military. these days its best to keep your number a secret as much as possible because of idenity fraud. dependents can also draw if you die and they are too young to work.
