I'm applying to BC and I want to pursue a career in social work. I know BC has graduate school for social work (which I'm planning on going to if I cant get it now) but I havent finished my first four years of college yet...still in high school... anyways, their majors they have doesnt include social work....does it fall in under social sciences? do i put it under other? or am i just SOL (so out of luck) until graduate school!?! ahhh
Help College Application: social work..?
Assuming BC is Boston College then they only have an accredited MSW program (www.cswe.org). You might consider one of the other schools in MA that have an accredited BSW Program
Anna Maria College PaxtonMABaccalaureateAccredited
Atlantic Union College South LancasterMABaccalaureateAccredited
Bridgewater State College BridgewaterMABaccalaureateAccredited
College of our Lady of the Elms ChicopeeMABaccalaureateAccredited
Eastern Nazarene College QuincyMABaccalaureateAccredited
Gordon College WenhamMABaccalaureateAccredited
Regis College WestonMABaccalaureateAccredited
Salem State College SalemMABaccalaureateAccredited
Western New England College SpringfieldMABaccalaureateAccredited
Westfield State College WestfieldMABaccalaureateAccredited
Wheelock College BostonMABaccalaureateAccredited
The advantage of doing a BSW is that you can do your MSW in one year rather than two.
Be ware of advice like Smiley's. Sociology and social work are two different fields (they are related but different). Now if you are set to go to BC - then sociology, psychology, women's studies, ethnic studies, economics, political science, almost any field that relates to people and social institutions will prepare you (though you will want to make sure you take prerequisites and do lots of volunteer work (or paid work or internships.

Reply:You can check under Humanities, and if you can talk with an advisor at the college because if you plan to go to Grad school for social work, you can just get a general psychology bachelor's or something, see what they suggest! Good luck!
Reply:Does your high school have mentors or councilors who can talk to you about this? Have you decided what college you want to attend? The college that accepts you will have a multitude of people and places to get information from. Get a catalog from the schools/colleges/universities and read them. You just need to call or write the college and they will also send you all you will need to read as well. There is all sorts of help out there.
