Family Social Worker?
Talk to your local council. They'll be very pleased to hear from you!

Council's are desperate for social workers, to the point where they're buying them in from abroad and re-training them. Local councils all have their own training schemes and qualifying schemes in place and love anyone interested in training.

The downside is that the two usual ways of coming into social work pay very little. You can either do a social care style degree (which can be done via Open University, but will take you a few years), then come into the field as a trainee social worker, or you can work in social care for a while in another role (such as admin) then ask your employer for social work training.

I'd really recommend you talk to your local council first. They'll tell you their preferred method of entry and whether there are are bursary placements etc. Please don't feel daft calling them. There's a massive government backed push on getting new social workers, the council will love to hear from you.

(To make sure you speak to the right person, ask for the 'Children's Services training team to talk about careers in Social Care'.)
Reply:3 years to study as a socialworker, can be done vocational training if you are with certain health and social services aithority, but is college, uni based. you could try open uni too, but you need practice based learning as well as theory. see links:
