A social is a party that people have before people get married, so that they have enough money for the wedding. So, what laws that must be followed in the order to have a social? If someone set up a social, just to get extra cash and not to get married, will they get away with it, or get arrested? My friend is planning to get married, and wants to know the facts before, even thinking of planning a social and the wedding.
How does a "social" work?
I have no idea what a social is...it may be a cultural tradition..but I'll tell you, from my culture, that a party before the wedding in order to be able to afford the wedding sounds like a total Gift Grab and a "fundraiser". Both tacky.
Reply:I had never heard of a social before this...
and I'm sure you can throw any kind of party/gathering.. whatever, and not be arrested.. unless you do something illegal there..
Reply:If a couple is mature enough to get married, then the couple is mature enough to pay for their own wedding. One doesn't expect others to pay for the wedding. This "social" you mention doesn't work for me. Sounds tacky, tacky . . . and I would not be a part of it.
