Family Social Worker?
To become a Social Worker you need to go to University and study for a Degree in Social Work, which will take about 3-4 years to complete.

Distance learning (Home Study) might be possible with some Universities but this takes longer (sometimes twice as long).

You might be able to get a job as a Social Work Assistant and then get paid, your employer will also pay for your training.

I do some work in the Social Care sector and have my own case load, currently I'm working with four children and their families, all which I do on Sunday's. The children range from 5-15yrs and all have some form of Disability.

With the 15 year old, I'm working on strategies for his mum to manage his behaviour and for hime to keep in control of his behaviour, also around issues of his overtly sexualised behaviour.

The work I do is very rewarding, and I enjoy it. I do not want to be a Social Worker as that would be more hours than I'm interested in and would require me to stop my other work.

Once you're qualified you'd need to register with the Genereal Social Care Council - their website might be useful - it has information about training, funding, and lots more.
Reply:do an open university course it usually depends on what level you require get in touch with northumbria uni speak to an adviser and good luck there are different ways and lines you can go down i work with north tyne side council and am doing my level three N V Q level 3 which is ample to do what i want so seek advice and what you want to do at what standard a social worker is hard work and this may not be what you actually want so get advice Dave
Reply:In Australia we have a government department called centrelink that provides job assistance and dole payments. They have social workers and offer traineships for people to become social workers. England might have a similar organisation you could contact. A good way to get paid and become a counsiler.
